Yesterday we started our first science unit about relationships in ecosystems. We started by talking about the difference between living and nonliving things. Second graders created a living and a nonliving thing out of play dough. We then brainstormed a list of characteristics of living things. Ask your child about his/her creations and what the characteristics of living things are.
To start our first ECO adventure everyone completed a scientific drawing and made "I wonder" and "I notice" statements about what they saw. We headed outside for our first Thanksgiving Circle and to play a quick game of tag. At our base camp the second graders were asked to find a nonliving thing they thought was interesting to bring back to camp and share with their class. They then created a picture using their pieces from nature. We will be going outside for ECO based on our science units. I will use our class website and Class Dojo to let you know when we will be going out. You can see your child's beautiful poster tomorrow night at the Open House. I hope to see you all there! |
