During Morning Meeting we were able to add another sun to our May weather graph. With this graph these amazing second graders were able to do so much MATH! First of all, ask your child what type of graph this is and what they notice about our results. Next, what fraction of the weather types are not shaded in? What fraction of the weather types are shaded in? How many boxes are there? Can you use a multiplication fact to figure that out? Way to go, second graders! I am so proud of you all :)

On a beautiful Friday, members from Shelburne Farms came to our school to have an adventure with Mrs. Flinn's and Ms. LaCasse's class. We had an awesome time! Before we started our adventure we split into three groups and introduced ourselves to the Shelburne Farms leaders. In our groups we shared what we already knew about soil, water and animals. Some of the groups headed into the forest to learn about and test soil. Ask your child to share with you what they learned about soil and the tools they used to test it. While some groups were in the forest, other groups went to explore our pond. At the pond we caught leeches, snails, salamander eggs, dragonfly nymphs, water skiers, tadpoles, plant seeds and other aquatic life. Ask your child what they caught, how they caught it and what they learned about our pond. We learned a lot about nature and that our pond is hungry for second grader's shoes! ;) Thank you Shelburne Farms for the beautiful day on Friday!
During Technology the class has started using a typing program called Typing Pal. This program teaches them how to properly place their hands on the keyboard and which fingers to use on each key. There are a series of lessons that focus on building accuracy and fluency. To start, our main focus is keeping our hands on the "home row" and building accuracy. Your child can practice at home using his/her username and password. Sunshine, river exploring, special rocks and tributaries! We had a wonderful class brunch this morning! Thank you to those who were able to contribute to our delicious brunch. We all had big smiles and full tummies :)
